AN ORDINANCE EXTENDING THE EXISTING MORATORIUM ON NEW RETAIL AND MEDICAL MARIJUANA STORE LICENSES IN WARDS I AND II IN THE CITY OF COMMERCE CITY BY AN ADDITIONAL SIX MONTHS

Summary and Background Information:
On July 10, 2023, City Council passed Ordinance 2527. This ordinance enacted a twelve-month moratorium on new retail and medical marijuana store license in Wards I and II in the City. The moratorium is set to expire on July 31, 2024. City Council held a Study Session on May 13, 2024 to discuss repealing or extending the moratorium. Based on City Council's discussion, staff has drafted a six-month extension to the moratorium for Wards I and II. Additionally, staff continues to work on marijuana regulation revisions related to security concerns raise by City Council at the Study Session which will be brought before City Council at a future meeting.
