A RESOLUTION DECLARING SUPPORT OF PUBLIC ART INSTALLATION FOR MONACO PARK

Body

Summary and Background Information

The Commerce City Cultural Council is recommending City Council adopt Resolution 2024-124, which supports public art commissions for Monaco Park, consistent with the city’s adopted public art master plan. Attached for reference is a presentation on the project’s public art master plan, art selection process, and information on the recommended artworks. The City’s Public Art Master Plan is available online: <http://www.c3gov.com/home/showdocument?id=738>

Selection Process

The Art Selection Committee for Monaco Park met in the Spring (April-May) and Fall (September-October). At their meetings, they set the public art selection criteria, reviewed applications for art project with a total of 41 artist proposals submitted for consideration, selecting 5 semifinalists to interview. On September 29, 2024 the semifinalists presented their proposals to the committee, and the committee selected three finalist artworks (Carlos Fresquez and Frank Zamora, Julia Fordyce, and Wey Mnky). On October 19, 2024 the Cultural Council voted unanimously to approve the artwork and formally advance the recommendation to City Council for final approval.

Public Art Project Discription

Proposed are three murals done by three different artists. Each mural will be wrapped on the back of the fitness court at Monaco Park for at least one year.
