Body
Summary and Background Information:
Walmart believes that strengthening local communities creates value for business as well as society. Each year, Walmart U.S. stores, Sam’s Clubs and Distribution Centers award local cash grants ranging from $250 to $5000. These local grants are designed to address the unique needs of the communities where Walmart Stores operate. For more information about Walmart/Spark Good Local Grants, visit .
The City has been awarded a $5,000 grant from Walmart to fund Commerce City Police Department (CCPD) community outreach programs in 2024. Funds will be used for the following programs:
1. Costumes with a Cop is a program where CCPD officers provide Halloween costumes to children. For many of these children, this is the first Halloween costume that they get to wear.
2. Shop with a Cop is a program where families go shopping with police officers for Christmas presents and Christmas dinner meals.
3. Dia de Los Muertos is a Hispanic holiday in November celebrating family members who have died. It is a time to reunite the living and the dead. Last year, CCPD partnered up with a local Hispanic church to help purchase supplies and food for this event. This event had over 500 people attend last year.
These programs bring a spark of joy and happiness to many families and children within our community while building healthy relationships and trust with their local police officers.
This ordinance is submitted for Council’s consideration to amend the 2024 budget, recognizing funds from the grant.
