Title
Proclamation Declaring the Week of October 12-17, 2021 as National Police Week in Commerce City
Body
In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15th as Peace Officers' Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week. Currently, tens of thousands of law enforcement officers from around the world converge on Washington, DC to participate in a number of planned events which honor those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice.
Due to COVID-19, Police Week 2021 was postponed to a later date. To assure opportunity for in-person attendance, National Police Week Events were rescheduled to October 12-17th, 2021. The National Police Weekend will offer the same honor, remembrance and peer support as the extended National Police Week, while allowing law enforcement, survivors and citizens to gather and pay homage to those who gave their lives in the line of duty. Planned events include honoring fallen officers from 2019 and 2020.
