Title
A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE SELECTION OF REPUBLIC SERVICES, INC. TO PROVIDE THE CURBSIDE GARBAGE AND RECYCLING PROGRAM AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO NEGOTIATE AND EXECUTE A CONTRACT

Body
Summary and Background Information:
In 2019, the City Council approved a Refuse Collection Services Agreement with Republic Services. This 2019 Agreement will expire on December 31, 2024. Per the terms of the 2019 Agreement, the City may extend the contract for a period of one year. This resolution approves the City Manager to enter into a one time, one-year First Amendment to the existing contract with Republic Services. The amendment will take the contract with Republic Services through the end of 2025. This one time, one-year extension is important as it will give adequate time to post a new RFP for Refuse Collection Services, solicit and evaluate bids, select a provider, and smoothly transition services if needed-all without interruption to our community's waste management services. Under the terms of the 2019 Agreement, the City spent approximately seventeen million dollars for services for the four years of service covered in the original contract. With the approval of the 2025 on November 4, City Council agreed to allocate an approximate additional four million dollars for the fifth year of services from Republic. Per the First Amendment to the 2019 Agreement, under no circumstances shall the total cost of services between the 2019 Agreement and the First Amendment exceed twenty one million three hundred dollars and no cents.
