Title
SECOND AND FINAL READING OF AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE 2022 BUDGET OF THE CITY OF COMMERCE CITY, COLORADO BY THE RECOGNITION OF THE COLORADO DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $3,000,000 FOR 88TH AVE:I-76 TO HIGHWAY 2 AND THE AUTHORIZATION OF THE EXPENDITURE THEREOF.
Body
Summary & Background
At the 15 March City Council meeting, an Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) between the City and the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) was approved to advance the design of 88th Avenue. The IGA is for the administration of the DRCOG grant that we received in 2020. The DRCOG grant is broken out as a 75/25 split between DRCOG/CDOT and the City ($3,000,000 from DRCOG and $1,000,000 from Commerce City).
The project will improve approximately 1.6 miles of E. 88th Avenue between Interstate 76 (I-76) and Highway 2. The purpose of the 88th Avenue Widening Project is to improve traffic operations and accommodate current and future general vehicular traffic, heavy trucks, bicycles, and pedestrians on East 88th Avenue between I-76 and Highway 2. The East 88th Avenue corridor has one travel lane in each direction with signalized intersections at the northbound I-76 on/off ramps, Brighton Road, Rosemary Street, and Highway 2.
The original IGA with CDOT for the DRCOG grant does not spell out the right-of-way acquisition, also broken out as a 50/50 split between DRCOG/CDOT and the City. Through amendment, spell out the right-of-way and split into 75/25.
