Summary and Background Information

In 2023, the Colorado Legislature broadened the authority for municipalities to use automated vehicle identification system technology pursuant to C.R.S. 42-4-110.5. The City already uses a pre-existing red light camera and AVIS technology use in the intersection of U.S. Highway 85 and East 60th Avenue, Commerce City, Colorado to comply with the update to C.R.S. 42-4-110.5. C.R.S. 42-4-1110.5 authorizes municipalities, to establish AVIS zones where there is a history of crashes, community complaints, reckless driving, and/or a history of traffic violations in a specified area. These intersections were discussed at the Study Session on October 23, 2023.

 

1. US Highway 85, Northbound Lanes, Cross- Street East 60th Avenue.

2. US Highway 85, Southbound Lanes, Cross-Street East 60th Avenue.

3. East 60th Avenue, Westbound Lanes, Cross-Street US Highway 85.
