Title
National Service Recognition Day Proclamation
Body
Summary and Background Information:
During 2013, fifty-two members of the Senior Corps Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) of Adams/E. Arapahoe donated 7,743 hours of service in the Commerce City area, impacting several hundred residents. They delivered Meals on Wheels, served as tutor/mentors in Commerce City elementary schools, worked in community gardens, helped at the senior center, food banks and in several other locations. They were part of our 691 RSVP volunteers who contributed 129,635 hours of service through 63 volunteer work stations across Adams and eastern Arapahoe counties.
The goal of Mayors Day of Recognition for National Service, which occurs Tuesday, April 1, 2014, is to highlight the impact programs such as RSVP, AmeriCorps, and Senior Corps have in tackling local problems and to thank national service members for their commitment and impact.
The proclamation helps raise awareness, highlights the importance of citizen service and bolsters support for nonprofit and national service groups.
