Proclamation Affirming Commerce City's Commitment to Inclusivity

Body

Summary and Background Information: Commerce City is one of Colorado's most diverse and fastest growing municipalities. Recognizing that civic engagement barriers exist within our communities of color, the city sought constructive and solutions-oriented feedback to improve participation from the Latino community, which represents 46% of our population. A 12-member taskforce spent six months identifying issues/topics of interest to the Latino community in Commerce City, documenting real & perceived barriers to participation in city activities & events, recognizing how Latinos within the city prefer  to receive information, and determining the effectiveness of existing communication tools.

The taskforce identified six key recommendations, one of which is to develop a philosophy and stated values for inclusiveness and diversity that applies to all city departments. A proclamation affirming the city's commitment to inclusiveness aligns with this recommendation and represents a meaningful step to future council actions.
