A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE RENEWED INTERGOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF COMMERCE CITY AND THE CITY OF BRIGHTON ESTABLISHING A SHARED SEX ASSAULT TASK FORCE

In 2017 the City of Commerce City and the City of Brighton, with the assistance of grant money from the Bureau of Justice Assistance, launched an experimental task force to improve sexual assault investigations and improve outcomes for victims. The project included an outside researcher. The results were outstanding and we now boast a nationally recognized, leading practice task for to investigate sexual assaults in Commerce City and Brighton. The grant has expired and both agencies has made the unit fully sustainable within our existing budgets. The joint task force takes a victim centered and trauma informed approach. The 17th Judicial district DA's office has regularly commented that our investigations set the standard for sex assault cases throughout the judicial district. We respectfully ask you allow us to continue this outstanding partnership.
