Title
National Auto Theft Awareness Month proclamation
Body
Summary and Background Information:
The 43-member Coloradans Against Auto Theft (CAAT) coalition recognize and support the need for coordinated statewide communications efforts involving law enforcement, insurance, and other community partners to inform and engage citizens in the prevention and reduction of auto theft.
This summer, CAAT is running a statewide public awareness initiative (which begins July 10) focused on the implications of auto theft. CATT has the full support of statewide multi-jurisdictional auto theft task forces including Beat Auto Theft Through Law Enforcement (BATTLE), Metropolitan Auto Theft Task Force (MATT), Southern Colorado Motor Vehicle Theft Task Force, Western Colorado Auto Theft Task Force, East Metro Auto Theft Team (EMATT), and Commerce City/Thornton/Adams County Auto Theft Prevention Program.
As July is National Auto Theft Awareness Month, the coalition is asking mayors and police chiefs across the state to pledge their support with auto theft prevention education efforts in their respective communities. The proclamation is one way to raise awareness and enhance the efforts of the police department's crime prevention unit.
