Summary and Background Information

As stewards of our public spaces, the PRG Division is focused on promoting resident health, safety and education through a variety of relevant programs and services for the community. One of our goals is to continue to activate the core city with more amenities designed to promote fitness and wellness. Adams County agrees to disburse grant funds to the Applicant to provide reimbursement for the payment of project costs upon successful completion of the Project, or on a quarterly basis. Itemized Reimbursement Requests, as set forth below, are required for reimbursements. Should the Project take two full years to complete, the Reimbursement Request for the final period of the project must be received by November 29, 2024 to remain compliant with the Project Completion Date, as set forth above. Reimbursements disbursed from Adams County shall not exceed 56% of project costs incurred during the previous period with cumulative reimbursements totaling no more than $700,000 based on a total project cost of $1,250,000.

Fairfax Park is 23-acre community park built in 1973 and located at 6850 Fairfax Dr.  It has been an integral part of the community for nearly 50 years.

On September 16, 2022 Commerce City submitted an Adams County Open Space grant application in the amount of $700,000 for improvements to Fairfax Park.  The overall project includes replacing the existing playground, upgrading the existing vault restroom to a plumbed restroom, and installing a structure for a seasonal portable restroom. Grant funds were requested for the new playground, with the remaining items serving as a $550,000 match.

On November 29, 2022 Commerce City was awarded $700,000 in Adams County Open Space grant funds for Fairfax Park Improvements.  Staff expects to complete these improvements in 2023.

Acting City Manager Rogers will sign the Adams County grant agreement. The ordinance attached accepts the Adams County Open Space Grant funds awarded for this project.
