Body

Summary and Background Information

The purpose of this ordinance is to amend the 2024 budget for the acceptance of a grant received from Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) for multimodal safety improvements on 68th Avenue.

The City applied for, and was awarded in 2022, a grant through CDOT for multimodal safety improvements along 68th Avenue. After receiving notification of the award, the City Council approved Resolution No. 2023-030 to authorize an intergovernmental agreement (IGA) between the City and CDOT in April 2023. The IGA was executed in March 2024.

This project will improve safety, multimodal connections, and community access to education and recreational opportunities by adding widened sidewalks on both sides of the roadway, new crosswalks, intersection bulb outs, Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons, reconstructed ADA-compliant curb ramps, lane restriping, new street lighting and drainage improvements.

The goal of this project is to improve the safety and comfort of pedestrians and bicyclists going to Alsup Elementary School, and enhance first and last mile connectivity for those going to the Commerce City & 72nd Avenue Light Rail Station.
