Comprehensive Plan Update

Summary and Background Information:
To ensure the City’s Comprehensive Plan continues to be a useful policy document that represents the vision and collective desires of the community, the city is pursuing a comprehensive update to the plan to respond to changing conditions and community values.
As a part of the update process, staff will be providing updates to City Council, alternating in-person and written correspondence.
Below is a brief summary of the updates that have been captured in the associated presentation:
Project Step 5: Community Vision, Goals, and Objectives staff conducted the following outreach initiatives:
• A community-wide Visioning Workshop was scheduled for June 10, 2021 at 6:00PM. Approximately 20 people were in attendance.
• A joint City Council/ Planning Commission Visioning Workshop was scheduled for June 14, 2021 at the regular scheduled 6:00PM City Council Hearing.
• Visioning Display Boards were been placed in the following locations:
o Civic Center
o Bison Ridge Recreation Center
o Eagle Point Recreation Center
o Paradise Island Pool
o Fronterra Community Park
o Veteran’s Memorial Park
o Buffalo Run Clubhouse
• Staff and the hired consultant for the Comprehensive Plan update, Houseal Lavigne reviewed the Existing Conditions Report. The report was reviewed by the Citizen’s Advisory Committee (CAC) and the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC), in addition to staff.
• Staff is awaiting revisions from the consultant on the Existing Conditions Report. Once the revisions are made, staff will review. Once the report is deemed complete, staff will present the Report and the City Charter to the City Council and Planning Commission at respective study sessions.
• Staff was present at the July 29, 2021 Concert in the Park event at Veteran’s Memorial Park to gather additional feedback from the community.
• Staff conducted additional outreach with Cultivando on August 3, 2021 to gather feedback from the Spanish speaking population. Approximately 15 people were in attendance.
• Staff was present at the August 5, 2021 Concert in the Park event at Fronterra Community Park to gather additional feedback from the community.
• Staff will be present at the August 12, 2021 Concert in the Park event at Fairfax Park to gather additional feedback from the community.
• Staff will review the revised Existing Conditions Report.
• Staff will begin to collect the DIY kits that were distributed earlier in the process.
• Staff will be setting up additional targeted outreach to help dive in on some key issues.
