Inaugural Commerce City Triathlon

Body

Summary and Background InformationThe attached PowerPoint is a visual representation of how the event could be set up but to ensure we look at the entire southern portion of the city to showcase what Commerce City has to offer. The distances for this triathlon event should be approximately 200 yards on the swim, 10 to 15 miles on the bike, and 2 to 3.1 miles on the run as this could give the most inexperienced athlete a chance to give this a go if the athlete wishes to further pursue something like this in the future. A few key things to consider when setting up an event like this (this is not an all-inclusive list): - Registration Cost: individuals who wish to complete the entire event versus relay members - Overall Cost for this event: a need to obtain volunteers, Public Safety, Parks and Rec staff, food and drinks for aide stations and post event foods, race bibs, body marking, medals, etc. - Top 3 male and female prizes: Nothing monetary would be needed but something like First place male and female would receive a 6-12 month free membership to any of the rec centers within Commerce City, 2nd and 3rd place could receive gift cards donated by Commerce City restaurants and/or stores. - Date of the event: Recommend doing this on a Sunday sometime late August or early September 2023. Here is an average of the weather pulled from a website: - Logistics: Flow of riders and runners to ensure the athlete is not interfering with entry and exit points dependent on where the athlete is at (i.e., biker coming in versus runner coming out, etc.) - Packet Pick Up: I believe this should be a city-wide event at Eagle Pointe. We should consider having local businesses set up booths in the parking lot to showcase what each business within Commerce City has to offer and should be a two day event (Friday and Saturday with Sunday being race day). Businesses who wish to set up a booth should NOT be charged a fee. - After race events: potentially having food trucks available, additional booths for vendors who wish to advertise their business (Businesses who wish to set up a booth should NOT be charged a fee). - Name of the event - Advertisement of the event - Donation: Will a portion of the funds raised be given to a non-profit organization within Commerce City?
