Body

Summary & Background
The City applied for and received a grant through the CDOT Revitalizing Main Streets (RMS) program. The City was awarded the grant in September 2022. The program encourages physical activity and enhances local economic vitality in towns and cities across Colorado through funding infrastructure improvements to make walking and biking easy, yielding long-term benefits that bolster community connections.
The City's project consists of roadway improvements to E. 68th Avenue for the purpose of providing bicycle and pedestrian connectivity through sidewalks and bicycle paths to the light rail station near Colorado Boulevard and E. 70th Avenue. The anticipated outcome will improved efficiency and safety for pedestrians and bicyclists in the area.
The project will improve the safety and comfort of pedestrians and bicyclists on the project corridor, namely students and families who walk and bike to Alsup Elementary School on the north side of E. 68th Ave. In addition, the improvements would enhance first and last mile connectivity for those walking and bicycling to-from the Commerce City & E. 72nd Avenue Light Rail Station, which is approximately 0.25-mile to the northeast of the project area.
