Comprehensive Plan Update

Body

Summary and Background Information

To ensure the City’s Comprehensive Plan continues to be a useful policy document that represents the vision and collective desires of the community, the city is pursuing a comprehensive update to the plan to respond to changing conditions and community values.

As a part of the update process, staff will be providing updates to City Council, alternating in-person and written correspondence.

For the month of September:

•                     Staff conducted additional outreach with Cultivando as well as Concert in the Park series.

•                     Staff helped host a Technical Advisory Panel (TAP) with Urban Land Institute on the 72nd Ave RTD Station in August. The panelists made recommendations to the City including redevelopment opportunities and public/private partnerships to                                                foster redevelopment around the station. Staff will review the official recommendations and analyze how the TAP study will be included into the Comp Plan.

•                     The consultant is preparing the goals, policies and objectives for a preliminary review by Staff.

•                     Staff is working with Executive Leadership and the Consultant on a base map for the City of Commerce City

For the month of October:

•                     Staff is finalizing the Existing Conditions Report. The final draft of the report will be presented to City Council and Planning Commission at a study session, as well as posted to the project website.

•                     Staff is reviewing the draft Vision Statement. This will also be presented to City Council at a study session at a later date.

•                     The base map for the Future Land Use Map is being reviewed for additional urban growth boundaries such as to the east of the City by DEN and to the west.

The Future Land Use Map and Land Use designations will be used to help generate special study areas.
