Title
Citywide Trash and Recycling Program Update
Body
Summary and Background Information:
In 2019, the City Council approved a Refuse Collection Services Agreement with Republic Services. This 2019 Agreement will expire on December 31, 2024. Per the terms of the 2019 Agreement, the City may extend the contract for a period of one year. Staff is actively pursuing this extension option and is in discussions with Republic Services regarding terms for the Amendment, including the establishment of a pricing exhibit for 2024 and estimating pricing for 2025. The 2019 Agreement did include a provision for annual rate increases and other extension terms, and so the negotiations are bound to those original terms. This one time, one-year extension is important as it will give adequate time to draft a new RFP for Refuse Collection Services, solicit and evaluate bids, select a provider, and smoothly transition services if needed-all without interruption to our community's trash collection.
Staff anticipates bringing the amendment before Council for approval during Q3 2024 and posting the new RFP for Refuse Collection Services in Q3. Council will review and approve the new contract in 2025 and a new Agreement for Refuse Collection Services will begin on January 1, 2026.
